I Held an Atlas in My Lap

Today I had the good fortune to learn of Warsan Shire, a young Kenyan-born Somali poet, writer  and educator, now based in London.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered
where does it hurt?
it answered
everywhere
everywhere
everywhere.

Warsan Shire

I am reminded of walking in this parched Bolivian landscape. A teardrop replaces that long forgotten raindrop.
